About
A Bachelor of Arts (BA) Hon’s in Economics is an undergraduate degree program focused on the study of economics, including both macroeconomics (the study of economies as a whole) and microeconomics (the study of individual and business decision-making).The BA (Honors) in Economics program spans over four academic years and has 08 semesters with a total of 123 credits. Each year has 2 semesters, which are Summer (July to December), Spring (January to June). The program is intended to equip the students with theoretical and empirical knowledge of Economics. There are several courses on Bangladesh economy, which will enable the students to grasp the progress of the economy of Bangladesh.
There are also courses in basic computing with application of specialized software to Economics and a course on computer literacy. These courses include rapid typing, word processing, spreadsheet analysis, power point presentation, and basic web designing. A final examination will be held at the end of every semester for each course. There will be mid -term examinations an oral examination in every semester. The department of economics belongs to the Faculty of Arts and Social Science of this university.

Specific Objectives
- To provide basic understanding and/or basic principles of economic theory and policy and how they apply to a wide range of real world issues.
- To train the students to utilize the techniques of Mathematics, Statistics and Modern Technology as tools of economic analysis.
- To master the theoretical and applied tools necessary to conduct economic research.
- To deliver specific knowledge, understanding and skills which are relevant to a variety of career aspiration including post-graduate study in areas closely related to economics.
- To deliver specific knowledge of relevant mathematical, statistical, and econometric methods and the ability to employ specific software.
- To encourage critical and strategic ways of thinking using the principles of economics.
- The objective is to generate an appreciation of economic dimensions extending to social, political, environmental and international issues.
Requirements for Admission to BA Hon’s in Economics
- At least a GPA of 2.50 or 2nd Division in both SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations; or
- At least a GPA of 2.00 either in the SSC or HSC examination, but the total combination of GPA in both examinations must be 6.00; or
- For English Medium students, O Level with at least 5 subjects and A Level with at least 2 subjects. In these two examinations out of 7 subjects, a student must have passed 4 subjects with at least a B grade or GPA of 4.00 and in 3 subjects with at least a C grade or a GPA of 3.5.
- We also prefer the North American High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate, or its equivalent certificates.
- In the case of sons/daughters of Freedom Fighters, a total GPA of at least 5.00 in both SSC and HSC Examinations. But the official proof of the Father /Mother as a Freedom Fighter must be included with the form.
Admission Procedures of BA Hon’s in Economics
- Four passport-sized color photographs (studio lab print with white background for the ID card purpose).
- Photocopies (one copy each): Certificates and mark sheets of SSC/O-Level, HSC/A-Level, or other equivalent examinations.
- Birth certificate of the candidate.
- National ID card of the candidate.
- Original certificates, mark sheets/transcripts, SSC/O-Level registration cards, and birth certificate /national ID card must be shown to the admission office of Times University Bangladesh for verification at the time of admission.
Evaluation of Students’ Performance
Of the total credits allowed for the courses, the performance of each course will be evaluated as follows.
